I am thinking maybe this means my new totem is the turtle? many, many years ago it was the turtle...
...then briefly an iguana. (but that was mostly because it was fun to make puns that started with' 'Iguana...travel to Bali')
Peeper frogs have held steady for a long time. Their song makes me happy. I guess we modern day folks don't really have totems? connections to the earth's creatures that have some special sway, a trait or aspect we either identify with or hope to have more of.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling!
At my totem turtle's pace, this piece is slowly becoming more defined in some ways.
(please excuse the bad photo!)
I had a lot of trouble getting all the wax boiled out, but I'll spare you that saga. too painful!
but you'll see those dimensional vertical tucks are gone -- they were holding the wax so I had to take them out.
I'll probably sew them back in, but am not 100% sure. we'll see....
I was able to get the wax out as best as I could. Then I hand-painted an accent color here and there.
Then that was washed out.
I've decided on the fabric that will be behind the panels (a lovely rust-orange linen), and lately have been distressing the fabric more -- this just means I'm pulling out more warp and weft threads, since the piece had some that started from taking out those tucked lines.
And I really like how the areas that were fraying looked. Happy Accidents!
so I want more of that fraying/open-ness.
It brings some added texture and allows for the color of fabric behind it to have more of a role.
(again, please excuse my photography. it's not the best, but if I keep waiting for perfect shots I'll never get these blog posts done!!!)
