Sometimes we catch up...

Time gets away from me pretty easily. Maybe this is true for everyone? It would be nice to not be alone feeling that way!!

Last month I finally finished three pieces that are included in the exhibit "Into the Light" on view at Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery in Shelburne, VT.  Very exciting to have these mixed media pieces out for people to see them - they were started awhile back, just before loss took its' toll on my inspiration and motivation...It feels really, really good to have completed them, and be able to share them with people...

Here's some shots of the finishing process. I'll iron some pellon to the stitching on the back of the canvas, as an additional layer of protection to all of the many knots I've tied to secure the threads...

After I do that part, I usually also back the piece with paper, then put in the screw eyes and hanging wire. It just finishes it off nicer. For my fiber pieces, I actually sew cotton backings instead of using paper. That feels very finished to me, and that way I don't have to worry about the acids in any tape affecting the fiber. With my mixed media pieces, they are usually coated and protected, so the tape won't effect it adversely. Here are links on my site to see these new works: Commune, Return, and Thunder

In other Studio Updates, the ikat warp has been coming along! It's very fun to finally get to some weaving, especially since this is so very different than the last warp I wove off...

...and I've also gotten to the next steps on two smaller mixed media / textile  pieces...
