A few years ago, it was a challenge initially for me to go from a large studio to a small one. But I'm great with re-arranging space and organizing, so over time, I found good ways of working and learned how better to store things.
I've come to find the small space can be a very efficient and cozy little incubator of my creative musings and makings...
Some benefits are:
1) You learn to put things away.
2) When you misplace something, you don't have as many places to look.
3) Most things are within reach!
(you won't find yourself wandering your large awesome space, forgetting what you were looking for, that's for sure!)
HOWEVER, I recently had a water mishap that I think if my space had been larger, it would not have happened!!
(who knows though, right??)
Anyway, recently I'd posted images of a newly finished stitched experiment (click here to see what it looked like before mishap). At that time, I felt it had a dark, moody quality to it that I rather enjoyed...
...it's very similar, of course, but it's so much lighter now, and doesn't have the same mood as before. Much of the darker tones of walnut ink were washed away. (I hadn't gotten to the part in my process of adding the protective layer of varnish on the piece)
Anyway, those are my mulling on small spaces...
I do always have my eye out for the large, yet affordable, studio space...
One of these days, I hope to have a space large enough to accommodate all of my creative activities...
Anyone in my geographic area have any tips or leads to something like that?
In my searching here and there over time, I've noticed that the options are about the size of the room I have here at home (which is small) and they seem over-priced for that size. But I know I'm super - busy with a lot of things, so it's quite possible I haven't heard of something close by that's really perfect...so any and all leads are welcome! Please get in touch if you know of any studio options.
