Ikat Progress!

My raw-silk ikat warp is finally almost ready to wind onto the loom!
Picture
Looks like it has come out okay, despite all the challenges in keeping the sections in order. Really tried to prevent them from being too tangled up while I did each of the steps of taking color out as well as dyeing color in. This involved using hangers for each section (there are 8) and hanging them in order while I worked. And tangling still happened, no matter how careful I was!!! Lucky for me, I like un-tangling things! so it was pretty much good 'zen' practice in patience for the most part.

Here's a gallery of images of the different stages. It's been a lot of fun so far - can't wait to see how it weaves up!!!

I'll be sure to take some photos of getting it wound on, and then the weaving process will begin! So exciting!!

Till then, I wanted to share these other photos showing the final stages of getting a small piece mounted onto canvas.

It's a 9"x9" piece I've donated to the SPA Silent Auction Fundraiser that's currently displayed on the second floor of Studio Place Arts, where my studio is. There's some wonderful work there - All items can currently be bid on, and the winning bids will be announced next Friday, April 20th during  SPA's Annual BASH party and fundraiser. It's a wonderful evening and a great cause, so come on out for it!  If you do attend, please visit my new studio and say hello. :)

The piece is entitled "Reconnect", to describe how it's felt to get back into the studio and work with the materials and techniques I love to use to express myself creatively....
